A 'Nutritional Label' for Products

Declare labels provide a clear and informative method to disclose ingredients and to ensure that manufacturers are transparent with their customers.

Intentionally simple in scope.

By focusing on product ingredients, Declare labels aim to 'level the playing field' and create a platform for constructive conversations about the ecological and human health impacts.

Valid for 12 months, starting with the date of issue.

All constituent parts (or ingredients) of a product including trace element are listed. Items are color coded to communicate potential hazards as per the chemicals Red List.

Both LBC Red List Free and LBC Compliant contribute to Living Building Challenge projects.

Reducing our Footprint. Increasing our Handprint.

We have calculated our total carbon footprint by looking at the impact from our facilities, shippers and suppliers. By 2019, with help from programs we are implementing to offset carbon in various parts of the world, Humanscale's carbon handprint will be larger than our footprint.

Our Footprint

A footprint is the measure of negative impact on the Earth's ecosystems. Our Life-Cycle Assessment calculates the amount of water, energy and carbon used across our supply chain: from extraction of resources to processing, manufacturing, assembly, and shipping.

Handprint

A handprint is the measure of positive impacts on the environment. It is calculated from improvements in our materials, processes and operations, or from new activities and initiatives we implement to make a positive contribution.

Net Positive Climate

By 2019, Humanscale will save more energy than is used across our supply chain for the production of Diffrient Smart chairs and Float tables.

90% of the waste in our facility is recycled

The majority of waste from Humanscale's production facilities' is made of the following types:

Product Fit
to Use

The product must be designed so that its durability, warranty and useful lifespan have a direct relationship to its environmental impact and embodied energy.

"Doing what's right with what's left"

13

Useful Life
Disposal

The product must either be:

Free of any Red List chemicals and be completely compostable within five years.

Able to be 100% recycled.

Have a manufacturer take-back program in the market where the products are sold.
